Underwriting - Departments

Underwriting Assistants
In a typical Underwriting Department, underwriting assistants are teamed with underwriters to performed tedious and repetitious tasks in order to free the Underwriter to perform the high value task of accessing the risk.  Underwriting assistants are often responsible for opening incoming mail, identifying which case file the document supports and then locating the case file, attaching the document to the file and then delivering the file to the underwriter.  The underwriting assistant will often manage a manual case file diary.  Underwriting assistants are responsible for tracking outstanding requirements that have been ordered by the Underwriter and performing follow-up tasks with the customer, agent or information service provider.

With AcroSoft, it is no longer to necessary to manually match documents with case files.  All incoming documents are automatically matched with the case file.  Documents are matched by a key assigned to the file; application number, policy number or case number.  When an incoming document has a matching key identifier, the document is electronically appended to the case.  This eliminates hours of work usually done by the underwriting assistant.

And, AcroSoft has an integrated diary function.  The underwriting assistant can use the diary as a ‘tickler’.  This eliminates the need for follow-up notes to be manually maintained or for entries to be placed in Outlook or another calendaring system.  Now, all diary entries are maintained in an integrated work management system.

Underwriter
The Underwriter at a company using AcroSoft is free to spend all of their time on risk assessment instead of sorting and managing paper case files.  AcroSoft also allows the Underwriter to append electronic notes and annotations to the case file.  By making everything available electronically, the Underwriter is able to access the case file from any location.  As companies explore more diverse staffing options, companies can employ remote underwriters and track their production electronically.

Reinsurance Companies
Insurance companies can now work with reinsurance companies more quickly and easily.  Cases needing reinsurance can now be extracted automatically and transmitted from the company.  Also, reinsurance companies perform periodic audits of a company.  Now, the company can randomly extract issued policies for the reinsurance company to review.  Or the reinsurance company can be granted online access to issued policies and have a random sample extracted for immediate review.
